I'm not gay but I do have gay/lesbian friends and family members and they deserve equality as well just like anyone else. This is a new century and you all need to catch up with time and stop living in the past. How would you like it if we ban things like blacks or Puerto Rican to go to the same school or bus or any where in the community as a white person. You all would like it. Because now a days there is a lot of interracial couples. And that is just like being gay so let them be. They should have just as much rights as anyone else.

I agree with you Joe!! He can't even get a handle on his police department to begin with. He can't run a county either without an open mind. He is showing discrimination and how the ppl still don't have the right to do anything they like in this county. This town is the most racial town and that's because of the person running it.

Just wondering how he would react to a gay pride parade in minersville.

Hearing that a community official of Schuylkill county said something like this is appalling, but not surprising. Schuylkill county is generally behind the times, especially when it comes to social issues like equality. Thankfully, progress is coming, even from the roots of Schuylkill County (thank you Judge Jones), and the future generations will hopefully continue to bring progress to "the land that time forgot". We need a little less hate and a lot more love <3

I happen to be married to a great woman. Our marriage is great and she also is a US Army solider and has been for 16 years! It was totally the wrong time for him to state his opinion! Sure he is in titled to his opinion! Our life style should not have been brought up during such an event! A event in which gave us our freedoms and many died protecting them and to this day still do men and woman like my wife!

I would prefer his resignation... No one this out of touch with reality should be in charge of anything.

Inappropriate timing which made it worse. Also, his views must be pretty ass backwards if he said publicly said it then. That's frightening

One more thing - I was in a straight marriage before and got divorced. Does that mean that straight marriages are fundamentally flawed as well? Meanwhile ( I can count over half a dozen other divorces that have occurred in my family - all straight marriages).

This is from a closed minded disrespectful individual who has no concept of change it's time for some people to wake up and come out of the dark ages

As a gay veteran - this is very sad to hear. My family including my mother and my brother's family all live in Minersville. Sad to know that the Mayor has prejudged gay people he's never met and would take the time on Memorial Day to do so. I chose to spend Memorial Day at Arlington Cemetery honoring one of the men who served with me and died in Desert Storm rather than marginalizing fellow Americans as the mayor has done. The timing of this comment was very ill advised - but the content should be considered just as offensive to anyone who has ever put on a uniform and fought for equal rights for all Americans. He needs to resign.

A Memorial Day ceremony is for the fallen members of our armed forces, not as a political pulpit for any politician! He has dishonored the heroes this day was set aside for, his community that elected him, his office and his person by doing so. IF setting aside the same sex issue for one day to pay homage to our countries fallen is too much for this "Mayor" to handle, Maybe he should apply for a position as "street sweeper" in the gutter with the rest of the trash.

Wait. I'm confused. The article states, "...declared that Pennsylvania’s same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional by claiming, “…all couples deserve equal dignity in the realm of civil marriage.”" and then continues with, "At the Memorial Day service, Mayor Post stated that he believed the ruling was wrong, essentially stating that marriage is only between one man and one woman."
Which is it? Or are you saying that he claims the OVERTURNING of theBAN is unconstitutional?
Regardless, it was ignorant and tactless of him to address that at a Memorial Day service. My guess is that he's NOT a veteran. Those folks have more respect and discipline that all of us combined.

This is such a disgrace to our community and country that same sex couples have to fight to have equal rights! Let everyone decide their own happiness! I think it was awful that all the veterans and soldiers were not recognized on their day so sad! Let's concentrate on the other things like gas prices, taxes, ect! I honestly believe everyone has the right to be happy and no one should dictate how others live!
