Dear DAE executive board,
On behalf of a large portion of the school’s student body, we urge you to take a position of support and solidarity with the Palestinian people who are currently under siege and being ruthlessly bombed every day since over a week by the Israeli state army.
We ask you for an official gesture and response to what has been globally recognised as a genocide. We feel that there is grounds and precedent for our request based on the fact that DAE had publicly taken a stance of solidarity with the Ukrainian people when Russia began invading last year. Since this atrocious event, two Ukrainian flags have been hung at zBar, a gesture we appreciate and are grateful for. In this same spirit, we urge you to hang the Palestinian flag next to the Ukrainian.
We would like to make it clear that this simple gesture is not one which should undermine or overlook the loss of life and brutal events which happened in Israel. We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and terrorism. In this spirit, we would like to invite you to equally give support to our Israeli, Jewish, Muslim, and Palestinian students who are united against the Israeli state’s efforts to undermine and destroy Palestinian lives. Considering the power of the Israeli military force, their international political and media support, as well as their systemic targeting of civilians, we feel a clear stance against the current onslaught of Palestinian lives must be publicly called out, and a ceasefire must be ordered immediately.
We hope you can positively respond to our request with solidarity and compassion.
