Dear Members of the UN Human Rights Council, and
Members of the Commission of Inquiry on the Human Rights Situation in Eritrea:
I am writing this letter by email to oppose and protest in the strongest terms against the allegations of “gross violations of human rights in Eritrea” that the Commission of Inquiry (COIEritrea) published in its report last year.
I am an Eritrean living in the United States of America, and do travel quite often to my homeland of Eritrea, about once every year. What I witnessed in Eritrea is a country at peace and stability which respects basic rights of its citizens, despite the “no-war/no-peace” situation that prevails due to Ethiopia’s illegal occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories. In Eritrea, I am always able to travel freely to various cities, towns and remote rural areas with no restrictions whatsoever and I observed that all citizens were able to do so likewise. The freedom of worship in the country is unrestricted, and the harmony of peaceful coexistence between the two religions of Christianity and Islam is exemplary.
The most outrageous allegation of the COIEritrea is that of “sexual violence” and rape against women. This is totally false and does not reflect the realities of Eritrea, where women’s rights are respected and protected by law and deeply entrenched as social values of Eritrea.
Concerning Eritrea’s National Service, I have many cousins, sons and daughters of close relatives and friends doing their national service obligation, and they never mentioned it as “slave labor”. All of them are proud of their contribution. I have visited Sawa National Service Center, and it was mostly an educational center, with minimal military training.
All in all there are no gross and systematic violations of human rights in Eritrea. Thank you.
Sincerely,
R

Dear UN Human right watch group(body), I am writing this to tell my opinion on this un just and un fair world we are living in. Eritrea as a nation which is being considered as a hell on earth and the government of Eritrea is being accused of repressive and corrupted. In my opinion these allegations are wrong and biased. Because, in the last five years I have been to Eritrea three times, in my stay in Eritrea I have witnessed the following.
Yes life is expensive like everywhere else but what made it worse is that mind you there is sanction on Eritrea by the UN that is making commodities very short and making living harder. I hope the sanction on Eritrea is lifted and the country will have the freedom to import and export freely to supply the people.
The SAWA national defence and skills training centre, and the national service are implemented to train and prepare the youth to serve the nation. However, this SAWA project is openly criticised by many opposition groups and enemy countries like Ethiopia to derail it and weaken Eritrea. One can argue that this service should be for limited time say two years, or people in service should get paid fairly according to their skills, but this is a nation which is new, small, poor, sanctioned, constantly harassed, falsely accused of helping al-Shabaab and other terror groups, which is unfairly under no - war no - peace siege situation with Ethiopia and expected to act and run like a developed country? Eritrea and the Eritrean people would do better and be in good situation on their pace, If the sanction is lifted, the verdict of border issue with Ethiopia is respected and Ethiopia leaves Eritrean territory.
Hundreds of thousands of youth are reportedly have left and leaving the country. First under this country’s situation mentioned above, I do not blame the youth to seek for better economic life and bright future. However, it is not appreciated that these youth are reporting torcher and abuse in Erit

I donot like what the UN is doing.
It is not posing sanctions in countries like America who are wrecking havoc in Iraq, Afghanistan and so many else but finds it easy to do so in smaller countries like Eritrea.
Even in the case of Eritrea they have no right to do so as Eritrea has been a victim of ethiopian invasion for over a decade now. Badme was charted out at the un as within eritrean border but has been occupied by Ethiopia for more than a decade in order to get Eritrea frustrated and fight over it with ethiopians but eritreans are not that stupid to do what the enemy wants.
We care for the important things, education and health care system in Eritrea is one of the best in the region and when the region surrounding Eritrea is in turmoil and chaos and countries are torn with civil wars- one can find only peace in Eritrea and progression towards a better future going slowly but steady and that is why I as an eritrean wish to say that whatever happens to eritreans we are a strong people who will never kneel down and will do what we can to become a great nation, as we are the greatest nation on earth right now.
Our accomplishments speak for themselves.
