Call to Action - Agreement Between Tourist Town and Bruce County

We were contacted by this company Tourist Town to advertise our B&B on their website. We declined because in our view every piece of marketing (directory, print, website, etc.) must pay for itself or it isn't worth doing. This charge on this website is NOT WORTH DOING. Explore the Bruce was a compendium of all tourist information put out by Bruce County (Agriculture, Tourism and Planning Department) that was working and was a valuable resource for tourists to the county. For the County to trash all that work and use our tax dollars for the gain of one company to now charge us to have our information located on a directory is appalling. And for your information, this Tourist Town is headed up by the former Economic Development Officer for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. It all seems a little too colluded to be legitimate.

This is an unethical practice and the county should co-operate with Tobermory chamber and municipality instead of hiring a private company!

Let's show tourists ALL.of the available tourist possibilities, and give them information to make it easy to include in their vacations.

This website exists because of these businesses that tend to the bruce enthusiasts. For shame.

All businesses should receive the same gratitude from the county. They should be able to list for free. If not, it's like a slap in the face saying they are only worth it if they cough up hard earned money by local owners. Those businesses are not big corporations... they are families who die the most part are only open for a short operating season. Make this right.

We are lacking consistency, need easy information for visitors, and good representation of taxpayers on these groups. I'm just private citizen why should I pay to advertise your business?

This underhanded agreement needs to be cancelled. All businesses need to be represented fairly as in the past by their local chamber of commerce, with links to Bruce County.

I have been questioning the County of Bruce's CAO since Nov regarding this "partnership". They lied to me about linking to private for profit sites. They lied when this was presented to council saying they have agreements in Tobermory and the Municipality of NB. The did not offer a tender, or ask for consultation. Businesses are being asked for money to be promoted on a County site! This BS should be stopped right away!

Bruce County has an obligation to all businesses in the County to fully and completely represent all of the businesses within the jurisdiction. This includes business name, location and contact information in the very least. Any Bruce County tourism website should be linked to all of the municipal tourism websites.

I have first hand experience with the principals of Tourist Town. I do not consider them to be reputable, ethical or professional. I would run not walk from any agreement that purports to be of benefit to anybody but themselves.
