Call for the Resignation/Removal of Dr. Virginia Young and the NMSD School Board

Education is important to our children. We must remove anyone who is not for the betterment of our children.

Input from a former teacher at Newton Municipal School District: My intention was to simply sign the petition in support of what I believe is a much needed change. However, after reading the comment from David Adams, I felt compelled to briefly explain reasons for doing so. The problems at NMSD can not all be blamed on Dr. young, but since the magnitude of the problems are so in-depth, she must be held accountable. After all, she's the leader of the district. Leadership and accountability must start at the top. Poor leadership is the missing link at NMSD. This is also the reason I and many others are "former" teachers who have gone on to other districts and have done so successfully. Take a look at surrounding districts that are flourishing and succeeding on every level and you will undoubtedly find effective and competent school boards and superintendents. Also, to refer to Newton County in the manner that Mr. Adams did in a previous post was unfair to them and NMSD, but it also highlights major differences between the two districts. First of all, "those people" elected their superintendent unlike Dr. Young. Having a superintendent who was voted for by the people makes a considerable difference in the performance of that individual. Also, NC is nearly three times larger than NMSD but those students outperform the students at NMSD on state test every year. National school reports also have NMSD ranked as one of the lowest schools in the state and nation. I have not doubt that students at NMSD are intelligent and capable of doing just as well as those in Union and NC, but parents are fooled by the crafty explanations of low test scores provided by their superintendent year after year. The excuses and false promises have to stop. Every school has its problems, but I'm confident in saying that one major reason NC and Union succeed is because of leadership. It's sad that people try to use this platform and Facebook to discredit the Supt. How many of you ever go to school board meetings? Most of you will sit back and bolster behind your computer without putting in work to help the district. I hope y'all consolidate with Newton County! You think your voice isn't heard now. You know "those" people in Newton County will not put up with the foolishness that goes on with your bad ass kids in Newton! Get off your ass and do something positive other than hide behind a computer and complain. If education was important to you, the board meetings would be packed like the football or basketball games!

I strongly agree with this decision, especially about the school buses. We are paying city and school taxes, therefore our children have the right to ride the bus and have a better education.

It's time for change. Nothing personal but our Youth Future is, and has been for a long time, at stake.

I'm truly disappointed in the schoolboard our children are already behind, and then the people that are supposed to be looking out for them are misusing there trust.

There are so much favor to the ones she want there, make position, for friends, these kids has no business not being able to ride the bus, we was never denied that right, most of all a lot of the staff are not qualified to be there. Wow, you can't tell a teacher from a student, when I was in school we knew the teacher just how they was dress and conducted themselves there are away from school. No morals value.

I'm so glad God is answering my prayers. My oldest daughter has been complaining about not getting the proper education at Newton and that was so sad too me because i had been telling her how good of experience I had attending Newton school...... I had to send my daughter to stay with her dad in the state of Illinois to get a better education AND 2017 she graduates she wants to come home for her senior year but I encountered her to stay due to the fact that I feel she is getting a better education...... Education is key to life!! To the class of 98 lets help our kids get to experience what we did good quality education and qualified teachers!!! I'm all in!

Agree concerning the desicions without the community or parents input and concerning the bus not running local any more that is definite more on working parents trying g yo gwg there kids away to school and back why they worked. This has never happen here in Newton.

The school is more concern about sports then education ... These kids need there education and teachers that want to teach . You a student first and a athletic second .

I'm signing because of how I was denied the privilege of graduating in my rightful place. The way they want aboutmy whole senior year was fishy.
