The article about the home and the cesspit mass grave of those 800 defenseless children leaves me totally numb. My mums maiden name is Lally so I have Irish descendants I have not found as yet. It's possible someone in that pit is one of mine. Horrifying.

While I know that there are some very good individuals, overall I find Catholics (and most members of all other religions) to be incredible hypocrites at best. Religion should have NO place in government. Individuals may be religious in their personal lives, but they should NOT force their personal beliefs on others!

Get the Church out of our schools!!! No more should the indoctrination of four year olds be tolerated in a supposedly modern society. This country needs a national debate to once and for all deal with the horrors of our catholic past.

The Church is slowly dieing in this country anyway, church attendances are dwindling by the year the number of new priests is but a mere trickle, the people are speaking so its high time the state rids itself of this stain.

Church an state should be separated/ however in Ireland it is embedded so deeply among the elites it will prove hard to change - there is a hidden hand/ the only building going on was on religious orders property! Hiding money to ensure the church's assets remain within. The people of Ireland own all these properties! We are the church or so they say

Religions are not the bastions of morality they are made out to be, rather they maintain inherently flawed teachings of homophobia and mysogeny. Only by taking them out of the equation can real progress be made towards equality for all. If people want to believe in their gods that's their business but the inequality religions propagate can no longer be ignored.

Separation of Church and State is good for both institutions. Will allow for greater pluralism in Irish society, mutual respect for all traditions whilst maintaining human dignity via State protections.
Too many wrongs have been perpetrated by those who used the links between Church and State to discriminate and in extreme cases abuse.
A State should be blind to a person's religious beliefs, social background, sexual orientation or gender (to name but a few).
One has to ask why religion cannot do the same however.

The Catholic Church does not represent every woman, child and man in this country. It's time to stop pretending and stop forcing the will of a religious group on the nation at large.
