I have grave concerns about the proposed homeless camp in Lahaina. The greater majority of homeless need either rehab facilities or mental health facilities or both. This alleged camp is nothing but a dumping ground for those people who truly need help in other ways.
The fact that we are only now hearing about this when many people in the community are off island like myself, tells me and others that there is a conspiracy afloat to push this through with the least resistance. I am dead set against the camp. Too many unanswered questions. It's shameful how this has been fast tracked.

The last thing lahaina needs by salvation army is a permanant location for homeless to live. So close to schools parks and residents. Lahaina town is bad enough with the mentaly ill and drug addict drunks down by banyan tree kam third school. I work retail. And the chaos of these high or drunk is nownon police record of incidents.. im all for helping families who want help but the ones who dont is why i worry.. so close to residents. Why doesnt peter martin build it by his house instead of mine. See how he.likes the homeless and crime and drugs by his home. NO!!

No thank you to the homeless camp. There will be a parade of homeless going through our neighborhoods: Puamana, Puamana Nui, Aholo, Kauula, and Wainee, on the way to Salvation Army on Shaw Street.

As an owner in Puamana, my sense, based on a preliminary assessment of the proposal, is that it is a very bad idea. I am also extremely concerned that its advocates appear to be pushing the plan through with undue and unnecessary haste. The result is that all affected stakeholders are not being given a meaningful opportunity to fully evaluate the proposal and present their views to relevant county agencies before any potentially ill-conceived and irreversible decision is finalized. Let's have appropriate due process please.

I am extremely concerned about the added fire risk this 24/7 camp site will pose in such a populated, hot and dry part of the island. Additionally, it would seem irresponsible, dangerous and negligent to locate a homeless camp, maybe even with children, adjacent to two highways and a main road with increasingly high levels of traffic.

For a myriad of reasons, I strongly oppose the creation of this housing/camp in this specific location and see a considerable, and a potentially overwhelmingly negative impact to all the surrounding property owners and neighborhoods.

This a very important decision and this needs to have proper disclosure to all residents and business owners in the entire Lahaina area. Please post pone this meeting until all people effected can gather proper research.

Lahaina is not the place for such a camp. It will be a constant problem for the police and residents. It will be a magnet for drug sales and abuse, alcohol abuse and nearby property theft. Common sense says this will only create problems, not solve them.
