I believe Gem-A is much more visible and the program is much better than it has been since I came on board in 1980. While there has been some great leadership in the education department, I believe it's flourished with James Riley as the CEO. While I'm not sure what ALL the issues are at Gem-A, I think it's only right that everything be brought to the table for fair consideration. Unfortunately, I, like many others, cannot be in London to attend the meeting that is scheduled for July. Will it be "live" through the internet for those of us that wish it were possible to be present?

Gem-A is far too important if an organization in the gem and jewelry education to be in discontent.
As a member, I request this meeting to be calendared ASAP and bring all needed issues to table for resolution. I'm saddened to hear the lack and break down of communications, especially with so many wonderful opportunities on the horizon for Gem~A and your affiliates.

I wish the best for GEM-A but the recent publicity stating no more than that the regular annual meeting has been postponed in order to resolve internal matter is damaging to the Association's good name.,

I am the current Chair of Gem-A. The proposed date for the AGM of Gem-A was changed on legal advice and the AGM will now be held in July and members will shortly be given the proper notice. It is unnecessary to hold a separate EGM in order for members’ concerns to be aired as they can all be discussed at the AGM. I have been in correspondence with some members who I believe may have instigated this petition. I have explained why comments similar to some of those made in the petition are ill-founded but it would not be appropriate for the board to respond in detail in an online public forum to all the concerns raised, not least because some of these relate to Gem-A’s staff. I hope as many members as possible will attend the forthcoming AGM when they can engage in a proper debate about the matters raised in this petition.

The present CEO (James Riley) has been instrumental in reviving and invigorating Gem-A. I have been a member for over 35 years, as has most of my family, and I love this organization. I have to say, however, that before James Riley came on board, I was beginning to think that Gem-A had no future. If you take away this motivator, you are taking the life out of the organization!!

I do not know what is happening BUT as a proud member of Gem-A for 30 years, I would urge everybody to address this matter ASAP because the longer this drags on (especially without any specific details being made public), the worse it is going to get.

I received a cryptic message from the Gem-A saying the meeting had been postponed. Hopefully whatever is going on behind the scenes will be quickly made public so that members can make their voices heard in a truly democratic fashion.

An important step forward for transparency and accountability in Gemmology. I urge all GEM A members to support this movement for reform.
