The constrictions at both ends of Church Road are potentially dangerous with the cars parked near the church end of the road making negotiation of the bend extremely difficult. The failure to effectively repair the road surface throughout the road to the roundabout is increasing the safety element of this road. It would be useful to understand the risk assessment that was undertaken to substantiate these changes. The junction at the Cross results in traffic chaos and increases the element of danger and risk for both pedestrians and motorists.

The Junction into The Cross Close, has now become a blind junction thanks to the new Cycle/footpath leading to hazardous conditions for both motorists and pedestrians!

The plans for this project looked great but the end product is very poor. This in no way promotes Caldicot, Church rd or the Castle, and it's sadly a huge waste of money and has caused massive amounts of disruption. The road itself is in a dreadful state! I haven't heard even one positive comment about the project! It seems that the council have once again gone ahead and wasted huge amounts of money, caused a lot of disruption and got it completely wrong!

The workmanship on the road so far has been really poor especially outside of the new garden. Also the crossing being taken away outside of the cross makes it incredibly dangerous as people are crossing the road all of the place. Traffic is chaos on church road especially as it’s the entrance to a primary school and caldicot as biggest attraction (the castle). The road needs to be kept clear on both sides as residents park on the road which would cause chaos for people driving up and down church road if there were right of way areas located up the street.

Church road looks dreadful and is dangerous. What was the planners thinking. Definitely needs some professional consultation on how to sort it out.

Is this layout been copied from somewhere it has actually worked? Apart from working on 3 to 4 different sections of Church road at the same time what benefit does narrowing a main road, turning a 2 way road at a busy point into one lane have for the users and pedestrians?

Whoever has designed the changes to this road clearly didn’t spend any time researching how this road is used and could not have possibly carried out any traffic monitoring. This road often results in gridlock during school pick up times. Did the council also forget to count the extra vehicles that will be generated by the extensive housing development at Nant-y-castell. It really appears the designers have no road sense.

Such an ill thought out project. If Health & Safety had any input,what were they thinking to sign this project off as safe?!! Sadly,such a waste of money that the village will not benefit from. The old Cross roundabout was by far the best to slow traffic & allow people to cross the road safely.

As a new resident to the area I am horrified at the state of Church Road and how narrow it is in places . As a motorist I feel I am taking my life in my hands I cannot imagine what fear a pedestrian, especially a child, must feel.

Very concerned about the “meeting points” that have been created at 3 places in the road with no clear signage of who’s right of way it is. Particularly the meeting point by the church which doesn’t have yellow lines on the road so you’re having to go around park vehicles either side of that meeting point, extremely dangerous.
