I am incredibly alarmed at Calderdale's position and concerned that the authority are not listening to the carers. Many will walk away and the authority, local communities, society at large and most importantly, the children, will lose such incredible experience and knowledge.

I'm a foster carer. We don't do it for the money but we still have bills to pay.

I have been a foster carer for 25 years. Over the years I have watched it become a business to both carers and local authorities. Looked after children are not a commodity. Councils waste millions and when the crunch comes, who do they hit out at? The lowest in the hierarchy in their eyes! Foster Carers!! When in reality, Foster Carers are the foundation stone of the system and without them the whole structure will topple. Are they going to say next that firemen only be paid for fires they attend or teachers only for teaching hours. Until Foster Carers are given the status they deserve as being the front line and part of the team. Then they will always be treated in this way. Calderdale you are hitting way below the belt with this move.

The country needs more foster carers. If carers do not feel financially secure it makes it harder for them to continue in the role. We need to wise up. Foster care is the least expensive option. Without enough foster carers placement costs will only increase.

Totally agree. Yet again local authority being short sighted and looking for the easy option. Perhaps they should look at themselves internally and then they would realise how much money is wasted by them.

A national shortage of foster carers and authorities expect people to want to come into this profession on zero hours contracts? Wake up Calderdale! Wake up UK! Put the money into retaining carers, not squeezing us until we walk away.

As a foster carer for a different authority, I feel this is short sighted. There is already a national shortage of foster carers. I feel the government should put a cap on independent fostering agencies in the first instance. This will result in more children having to be place out of authority and with more costly independent fostering agencies.

Some people think fostering is so easy and not worthy enough to be treat as a profession. The job is getting more academic also which can take up a lot of time doing paperwork and keeping records. Cut backs will deter more much needed foster carers coming forward and will make foster carers leave.

I fostered for Calderdale for well over 20 yrs never ever were number of hours contracted carers had to put in whatever time was required. We did not get a contract we were classed as self employed . I resigned last year

In relation to the children how can this be secure and consistant. Your'e taking the foundations away from Fostering that has taken such a long time to build and maintain quality in retaining your Foster Carers, Foster Carers are hard to recruit due to the very demanding role they undertake, How can this be a positive way forward for foster care and the vulnerable children Foster Carers look after and take into their homes
