The entire Senior Class is excited for graduation of June 1, 2018, however as told by our guidance counselor(Michele Garris), we can not decorate our caps for graduation. The Senior Class will not place anything vulgar on the cap, so we decided it would be a great idea to place our destination after high school such as college, military, or etc.

The Vice President and I are attempting to be representatives for the entire class because we all would love to decorate our caps. The cap and gown are bought by every Senior(personal property), so we should have the rights to decorate our caps, but the school is infringing on that right.

The Student Government Association of Burke High School has drafted a possible selection process for administrator to determine which decoration can be presented at graduation and which can not. We have drafted that every Senior who would like to decorate their caps must submit the design by May 25, 2018 of which designs may be approved or denied by the administration team. If any Senior fails to submit their design by the deadline or design was denied, their caps will not be decorated and must abide to the original, packaged cap they received from Jostens.

We, The Students of Burke High School in Downtown Charleston, South Carolina would love for our rights to not be infringed by Burke High School's unwritten policy of "No Cap Decorations." Will you join us in our push to decorate our caps for the June 1, 2018 graduation at the North Charleston Performing Art Center?
