Colm Meaney is a great Irish actor, and Miles O'Brien is a great Irish character; all made of qualities that Irishmen value, with none of the common negative steteotypes. He is knowledgable about his profession, hard-working and dedicated, a mentor to younger people in his field, a good and loyal friend, he enjoys hanging out with his best friend at the bar and having a game of darts and a pint, but is never shown as a drunkard or layabout. He is a dedicated family man who cares deeply for his wife and children, and just a downright great fellow.

My and I are Irish citizens and we are both proud Trek fans. Colm Meaney is a wonderful actor who brought one of the best written, best acted, forward thinking, and hopeful tv series to ever exist to life. Please erect a statue in his honor! He is in an Irish National Treasure!!

All the American tourists would flock to get their picture taken with the greatest transporter chief ever ... Except when there was any difficult transporting tasks, then Riker or Geordi would do it!
