Chief O'Brien was and is my favorite Star Trek character. He represents the Irish familyman in the most positive of lights, and he partially inspired me to become an engineer myself. Thanks Chief, you deserve it.
Colm Meaney is from Dublin, but the character is supposed to be from Killarney. Chief Miles O'Brien is clearly the most positive representative of an Irish character in science fiction history, so a statue in either place is well-deserved!
Chief O'Brien was the character that made me want to come to Ireland for my 60th birthday, and the epitome of bringing Irish spirit and grit into modern tech and eventually space travel. This character is a perfect symbol for Irishmen moving forward into new history.
I think of no greater representation of Irish culture, intelligence, character and technical ability than Chief Miles O'Brien. Also, the cost of the statue would surely pay for itself with the tourist euros it would be sure to bring in.
It was really great to see a Dubliner represented in a show set 300 years in the future. Made you wonder how the city will evolve in years to come. Certainly a chatacter to inspire Irish people interested in science, engineering and space exploration.

I have watched all the Star Trek series and agree that Miles does indeed stand out..Ironically I recently visited Ireland and thought about this character..I'm 68 years old now and feel a statute similar to the Kathryn Janeway or Rocky statues would be a great tourist attraction
