This medical complex focuses on the needs of the people we serve. Access to follow-up care within the Public Health and Social Services system is difficult because Public Health needs a home too. Many of our patients rely on public transportation and when they give up on the follow-up care due to the difficulty in navigating the current system, they end up back in the hospital. The Medical Complex was the solution stakeholders including the legislature supported. In fact they wrote a legislation to that regard which became law. Numerous sites were vetted, to include Oka point, with the focus on GMHA, Public Health and Behavioral Health expansion and community needs. Eagle's field was vetted and selected as the best option for the complex solution. The legislature requests transparancy via a Guam Medical Complex website and the informarion be hosted on the GEDA website. That was complied with. The fact is both the executive and legislative branches were involved from the inception of the Guam Medical Complex concept. Eagles field was selected as the site for the complex and somehow this process took a left turn. The Eagle's field selected site became a political firestorm that should have never happened. What a waste of millions of dollars of taxpayers time and money! Guam has a chance to course correct with this new site from what I understand is now on crown lands. I hope our legislature gets it right this time because our patients and the people of Guam we deserve solution driven leadership.

As I sit here in Los Angeles CA, waiting on an appt with a pediatric cardiologist for my 14 yr old grandson, it saddens me that there is nothing that can be done for my grandson on our home. Our people of Guam deserve better but we have to demand it because GMH is doing the best they can but we need to demand more for our island residents and our children. My grandson has needed to see a pediatric cardiologist for over a month and we had to travel to LA for him to get evaluated and treated.
We definitely do need a new Medical Compkex.
It’s long over due, work together to get it done!
