It has come to our attention as citizens of the City of Portland, active members of our respective communities, and students gaining global awareness that excessive force as it leads to police brutality is a danger in our society and must be curbed to maintain peace and order throughout the general public.

Those sworn to protect the citizens of Portland, namely police officers, have become increasingly violent in their apprehension of suspects and investigations into reasonably suspicious activity.

We, the students of Portland Community College, propose a mandatory minimum sentence of one year inprisonment for the conviction of excessive force, brutality, or any other crime where citizen's inalienable rights have been blatantly ignored by a sworn officer of the law.
