Brule Street Safety and Parking

This petition is created by the residents of the Brule neighbourhood in Ward 4 of Toronto to review and revoke the street parking policy recently implemented to allow for permitted parking.
Concerns from residents include, but are not limited to:
- Brule is a dead end street, with only 1 entrance / exit (see attached map with the street highlighted in yellow)
- There are no sidewalks on the street, making the street the only walking path out of the tiny Brule neighbourhood, which houses many families with young children and active elderly residents who are often out walking
- 100% of residential homes have driveways in which residents are capable of parking, rendering any street parking permits for those who reside outside of the immediate neighbourhood.
Today, May 26th 2023, there was a resident fire at 62 Brule Gardens. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries, however the 911 response did require multiple fire trucks, police, and paramedics to attend the situation. With cars legally (permitted) parked on the street, and the emergency vehicles also on the street, there was no physical way to exit the neighbourhood, being it is a dead end street. In addition, emergency vehicles were required to use residential driveways, as the street was already occupied with these permitted parked cars. See picture attached of the scene today, which lasted for several hours. This presented an extremely dangerous situation where any additional emergency from one of the approximately 75 residential homes would have been blocked for a number of hours, making it impossible to have anyone enter or exit the street. It is the responsibility of our municipal government to ensure that policy decisions first and foremost protect the safety of Toronto residents, and in this instance the city has failed. We need the council to immediately review and revoke permitted parking in the Brule neighbourhood given the unique nature of this street as noted above.
