Looking forward to next year's British Open, it is simply unacceptable that, in the 21st Century, once again the UK's flagship golf championship is to take place at an all-male golf club. Having just experienced the 2012 London Olympics, it is increasingly clear to me the importance of complete equality in sport. The 2012 Olympics were, after all, the first olympics where women competed in all events. Where huge steps are being taken to allow equality in sport, it is an enormous step backwards when the governing body of golf promotes the use of all-male golf clubs for the Open. By doing so, it condones the existance of all-male clubs, and sets an example for the next generation of golfers. Great Britain and Northern Ireland are blessed with a plethora of superb links courses. Amongst them are many championship courses with equal membership rights. Royal Portrush is only one example. There is no reason why all-male golf clubs need to remain on the rotation for the British Open. Please support this petition for the removal of Muirfield, Royal St. Georges and Royal Troon from the Open rotation.
