NO MORE VIETNAM IN AFGHANISTAN!
Dear President Obama and Members of Congress:
While the desire to help other countries is an admirable American trait, there are times when putting our military in harm's way is not only a disservice to our military, but also to those whom we wish to help.
Afghanistan is such a situation. What you have today in Afghanistan is another Vietnam. When one sees Spc. Bowe Bergdahl's tormented face as a Taliban terrorist gleefully smiles, the futility of our involvement in Afghanistan is quite clear. The Taliban does not fear us, nor do they have any intention of quietly crawling back into the dark place from which they came.
Not only are we risking the lives of our military deployed in Afghanistan, we are putting the civilians whom we seek to protect in mortal danger. The previous administration started a war in Iraq under false pretenses and abandoned the cause in Afghanistan. The Taliban has an even stronger foothold and terrorism in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world is worse now than it was before the Iraq war.
Trillions of dollars have been spent on both wars and thousands of American lives lost, in addition to multi-national forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and saddest of all, thousands of civilians, including innocent children, who have been at the mercy of those battling around them. The time has come to bring our troops home from Afghanistan. They have been there far too long. Fighting a war to gain Peace is absurd. Peace begets Peace. War begets death and destruction. When you bring all of our guys home, please do not forget Bowe Bergdahl. Hundreds of Vietnam POWs were left behind. Spc. Bergdahl has been held for 18 months. Certainly there is some inkling of where he is being held. Someone knows something. Offer that person a reward. Whether you deliver it or not is up to you, but have Special Forces bring our guy home. Please do not leave Bowe Bergdahl behind. In closing, I am including screen shots from the most recent Taliban video in which an obviously thin, abused, terrified, and traumatized Bowe Bergdahl stares at the ground, then looks directly into the camera with haunted eyes. His helplessness is heart-wrenching. LOOK AT BOWE'S FACE!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! The United States is in a terrible financial crisis. We cannot afford to spend any more money just making things WORSE in Afghanistan and endangering lives. NO MORE VIETNAM IN AFGHANISTAN! BRING OUR GUYS HOME NOW! Respectfully, The Citizens of the United States of America
on behalf of the Citizens of Afghanistan, NATO Troops, and
Concerned World Citizens who Wish for Peace on Earth for ALL
