Bringing Midwifery Care to the Battlefords and Area

access to midwifery care in this province is far behind that of surrounding provinces and what services do exist are woefully understaffed and mismanaged. The government needs to show leadership by funding services in all regions, supporting midwives who come to work here, and supporting education initiatives to educate midwives here in saskatchewan. Midwifery is the answer to many of the unique challenges facing maternal care in saskatchewan. Midwifery could end northern fly out policies for remote northern communities, could provide much needed education and crisis care to at-risk urban communities, reduce stress on existing facilities and staff, and improve outcomes for low-risk pregnancies.

The nurses are swamped in North Battleford and with the first 2 boys I had in NB I was BEGGING for nurses aid and pain relief and was treated rudely!! A midwife present would have ensured a smooth delivery!

it is imperative that women have a choice in birthing. We need more midwives in Saskatchewan. We also need a better model. Let's look to our two neighbours to the west and learn from their success.
