In July of 2011, the Islamic Center of Irvine located in Irvine, California appointed Sheikh Wisam Sharrief as the new religious director. Since then, and even before then, Sheikh Wisam has been benefiting the community with his classes, his lectures, his khutbas, his companionship, and his mere presence. 

In such a short time, Sheikh Wisam brought the community together in unity in the study of Islam. During the month of Ramadan, Sheikh Wisam started "The Journey Project," a project that takes the community through the words of the Noble Quran, from beginning to end, giving us a deeper understanding, a relevant application to our lives, and most importantly, a strong connection with the Quran. People that have 9-5 jobs stayed up till 1 AM on weekdays to benefit from this amazing project.

On Friday, September 23rd, 2011, the Islamic Center of Irvine, after relocating Sheikh Wisam and his family from Texas, announced that Sheikh Wisam will no longer be the religious director. As it turns out, a select number from the community, a vocal minority, had requested the Sheikh Wisam be removed. Their reasoning was not known and was never announced. We feel that this is unfair to the rest of the community, the overwhelming majority, that were absolutely devastated to hear the news. This petition is a request to bring Sheikh Wisam Sharrief back to the Islamic Center of Irvine!
