I'm 52 now and i have grown up with the Waverley in my life since i was a boy, I even worked on her for a time in my teens. She represents a link to past generations of a kind no static museum can offer. Photographs and multimedia experiences are one thing but this is living history, and allows us and our children and hopefully our children's children and beyond not just to view history but to live it. Millport pier and Craigendoran pier have gone and Ayr is now deemed 'uneconomical' for Waverley to call at. Ultimately fewer ports will mean higher fares and reduced sailings which in these times of austerity will put a Waverley sailing out of reach of many families. Please do your civic duty and save Helensburgh pier so that my 5 year old son and ultimately his sons and daughters and theirs can continue to enjoy trips "doon the watter" as generation before them have done. We owe it to them to keep this tradition alive, the cost of losing it is too high for all of us.

The pier is not just important for Waverley but also local businesses. I see it as vital to get the pier fixed PDQ.

Waverley been calling at Helensburgh all her sailing days. Why should this stop because of council budget cuts. Should be encouraged to promote tourism in area.

I want to be able to catch Waverley at Helensburgh Pier - so convenient for the railway station.

former crew member of Waverley and Balmoral piers around the uk are the livelihood of rural communities and towns that bring in money to the local economy and also if u had no piers there would be no historic ships like waverley & Balmoral so helensburgh must be saved

Fed up with this council running everything down they will never let it happen in towns north of Arrochar where our money is spent. You letCraigendorran pier disappear now you want Helensburgh to go as well you all should be sacked hope your all out at the next local elections

Helensburgh has lost enough life in recent years. We must ensure the Waverley uses Helensburgh to keep us on the map!
