On September 5 2012, Motorola USA announced three new smartphones scheduled to come out this fall in time for the holiday season. They are the Motorola Razr M, the Razr HD and the Razr Maxx HD. Shortly after this, Rogers Wireless in Canada announced that they would be the exclusive carrier of the Razr HD (with a slight name change), shutting out all other carriers in Canada from getting this device: http://redboard.rogers.com/2012/stay-connected-all-night-on-the-new-motorola-razr-hd-lte-exclusively-from-rogers/ If history repeats itself, Rogers Wireless will carry the Razr HD and we will not see it on any other carriers. This could possibly include the other Razr devices announced depending on the details of Rogers’ exclusivity deal. This needs to stop. The exclusive deals hurt the consumer and don’t give us choice! We need to show, that there is a large, vocal amount of consumers that want to buy these phones but do not want to be forced to change carriers or be forced to go with one carrier. This isn’t the year 2007, it is 2012 and almost 2013. This is where you come in! By signing this petition, you are telling Motorola Canada & all the other Canadian carriers (Telus, Bell, Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron, etc) that you want the devices that Motorola offers. Whether it’s the Razr M, Razr HD or Razr Maxx HD, take a few minutes to sign the petition and put in the comments which device you want and on what carrier, and express any other thoughts on the matter! Check out the devices at the link below: - Motorola Razr Maxx HD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuhS9kjDWDo - Motorola Razr HD http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/5/3293460/motorola-announces-droid-razr-hd/in/3058570 - Motorola Razr M http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/5/3293556/motorola-droid-razr-m-4g-lte-announcement/in/3058570 (THIS PETITION HAS NO AFFILIATION WITH THE CONTENT & THE OWNERS OF THE CONTENT IN THE LINKS ABOVE) ------------------------------------------- “Why a goal of 10,000 signatures?” Well, assuming an average price point of $199.99 for the devices multiplied by 10,000 works out to about just under $2 Million dollars. That’s just in contract signing, not including monthly plans and other stuff. This would show Motorola and the carriers, the amount of money they’re leaving on the table by not offering or picking up Motorola’s great phones. “Why a petition?” Unfortunately, going onto a website and posting in its forums doesn’t get too far. Also, posting a tweet with only 140 characters doesn’t get the whole story across either. It seemed like a petition would be the only way to get as many eyeballs as possible from all over the internet to hear about the cause. Also, I don’t think anyone will be rallying at Motorola Canada headquarters to hold up signs ESPECIALLY if it starts snowing soon! “Why bother with this? It’s just a smartphone.” That’s true, it’s just a smartphone but there are a few things to take note of. First off, the Razr Maxx HD specifically, notes a huge bump in smartphone specs that we rarely see in today’s offerings. I’m speaking primarily about the battery. This is something that many smartphone makers have not jumped on yet and have been racing to make the thinnest device possible instead of focusing on what’s more important; battery life. It doesn’t matter how much amazing things a phone can do if it doesn’t have enough juice for you to use it or can’t get your through the work day. Secondly, something has to be said about these exclusive deals… THEY SUCK! Really and truly, there’s no way for us to be vocal with the parties involved. Tweets won’t get a response, Facebook messages will get deleted and emails will be ignored. There is more than one wireless carrier in Canada and all those who want to buy the new Razr phones are not all on the Rogers networks, so let us make our voices heard!
