Dear DC,
We would like you to please give Tim Drake his own comic again. Tim has been a long-standing favorite in the DC Universe, both during his tenure and Robin and now as Red Robin. Maybe it’s because of how inspirational he is. Tim’s strong sense of integrity, humanity, independence, faith, and amazing kindness, his perseverance in the face of adversity and doubt – both in his life as a superhero and his personal life – and his willingness to open his heart to others despite being wounded before are all qualities that most of us can only aspire to.
Yet he’s also very much like all of us: he’s had to work hard for all the skills he’s earned, and doesn’t have the natural, impossible grace that Dick has, the sheer power of Bruce, or the head start that Damian got. He’s just very, very smart, very determined, and can, on occasion, be as much of a dork as any of his readers. It’s just so easy to cheer for him, laugh with him, cry with him, mourn with him. We can stand back in awe of him, and yet he doesn’t always seem to realize how amazing he is. He can be incredibly endearing even at his most frustrating, and holding him near and dear to our hearts is an easy thing to do.
Tim Drake is just that cool.
DC, we are all huge Tim Drake fans, and if you could find it in your hearts to give him his own book in the New 52, we would all be incredibly grateful. Teen Titans’ ensemble cast, while strong, does not allow for the kind of character growth and development that we all know that Tim is capable of, as the narrative necessitates shifting to the other members of the team in order to tell a more solid, well-rounded story. Given a good team and a fair chance, we’re all sure that Red Robin could easily become one of the reboot’s best titles. Please, DC, allow Tim that chance, and give us all the pleasure of sharing his journey with him.
The current volume of support has secured us a formal meeting with the editorial outreach team. I am drafting a briefing document that summarizes our request for a dedicated title to present during that discussion.
