I understand the basis of not entertaining ransom demands. I hope it does not become a standard response (or the only response/action) by Governments whenever a hostage-taking situation arises. I want to believe that my Government is assessing each hostage-taking situationally and maintain some flexibility to determine whether lives can be redeemed. I want to believe that my Government is having sleepless nights in finding every possible ways and deploying every resource to save innocent lives - as these hostages may possibly be me, my family members or even friends.
I am feeling quite helpless as there is nothing I can do to help Thien and Bernard except signing this petition and praying for their safe return.
