Jazz music as a style, or even as an approach to making music, has not been recognized as an important american voice. I don't know why. Most of the better musicians in any style of music also play jazz. Jazz has influenced pop, rock and dance music and has absorbed elements of those styles into "modern jazz". There are people in the USA who could care less about Classical music or Jazz. I could care less about Country or Rap. Why are the Grammy Awards only for some americans?

It is apparent the voting demographics of NARAS have changed. Members who love this art form need to remind NARAS that it needs to be honored if for no other reason than to educate.

I, too, am sick of the disgusting display of sexuality instead of honoring true musicians for their years of dedication to jazz both in education and performance efforts. Jazz is a solely American art form and the only form that has shown consistent quality standards excellant musicianship. We need to get back to honoring the art and the exemplary performers who bring this wondrous music to life. If not, it will eventually be lost on successive generations of young musicians who will never benefit from it's unique quality.

The Grammy's have been Terrible for MANY, MANY years nothing that means anything is being offered to people - except for a few exceptions. JAZZ MUSIC (american's Classical Music) has been denied and pushed under the couch so to speak, as if it's become tabu to been speak about it, what DAMN SHAME !!!! Wake up people and lets start Supporting Jazz in ALL int's Flavors and Colors, and most especially the Traditional AMERICAN SONGBOOK, which we must not allow to Die not he vine- its the Greatest Music on Earth !!!! Our Kids are not being exposed to ANYTHING that is even a Fun Groove based Song with decent harmonies and structures that actually goes somewhere, instead it's a mindless brutish, dumb beat with even dumber words being recited over it, what is this ???????? As much as Culture PUSHES that stuff down our throats (and especially young peoples throats), we Must PUSH BACK and offer a lot of Great, interesting, intelligent ART back into the MAINSTREAM, whatever shape or form it takes, it has to be meaningful and musical, this si the ONLY way to break open the minds and hearts again to REAL MUSIC !!!!!!!!

30 years ago, there was no category called "Rap" on the Grammys, because they didn't consider it music, and wouldn't even let those stinkin', brain-dead, drug-infested thugs through the front door. Now
look where we are! So, would someone please go get the shovel so we can bury that "Cultural Bar" just a little deeper? These days, true music...like jazz and classical...can only be found at 2am on a handful of PBS stations across this suffering country. As a jazz pianist, I've been gigless since 1995.

Jazz is the only truly American art form. The crap they celebrate at the Grammy's is far from art, and it's not very musical at all. It's time we educate this generation about real music.
