No jazz on the show is unacceptable. Back in the day Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Archie Shepp and others would disrupt TV shows demanding to have their music heard. Time to do this again....it worked for Kanye.

It's sad that so many exciting instrumental music performances aren't featured. There is so much diversity in American music, that needs to be shown, and the various jazz categories need to be part of the presentation.

Jazz and Classical music increased their standing in the market slightly with 3.4 percent of all music items purchased being in the Jazz genre, while 3.2 percent of music items were Classical music.

Jazz music is one of the most sohicated expressions and it is an American art form that was created originally in this country.
Recent Kennedy Center tribute/award to Herbie Hancock featured the a straight ahead jazz segment w/ Chick Corea, Dave Holland,Jack DeJohnette,and Wayne Shorter. The most powerful 2 minute musical broadcast in years.

Jazz was and continues to be one of the best things ever created in America. Its cultural impact on the world is one that is pervasive. Everywhere I was stationed, both in the States and overseas, during my years as an Army and USAF bandsman I was constantly reminded of how lucky I was to be a musician who played this music. No matter how young or how old the audience, no matter whether we played for Americans, Italians, Japanese, Brits, the French, Koreans, Australians, Thais, or whomever, jazz spoke and continues to speak to them on a level that transcends language, culture, politics, and geography. Whether playing with such greats as the Mills Brothers, Rufus Reid, Sadao Watanabe, or even His Majesty Bhumibol Aduljadej--the King of Thailand, we never failed to connect with people in every country I was in. Jazz is discipline, jazz is art, jazz is freedom to express one’s greatest desires and deepest fears. Jazz is life. Just about every country now has practitioners of the art, both professional and amateur, and great audiences who love it. If you want to reach people anywhere in the world, lift them up from their daily cares and woes, put a smile on their faces, and leave them emotionally and spiritually better than when you found them, present a jazz concert to them. They will be uplifted in more ways than you’ll ever know. They need jazz. And frankly, so do we. Respectfully, Pete Harrison
