Yes I would like to see Jazz brought back to the Grammys, after all Jazz is the foundational music of America and has so much history, to be left out is sacrilegous.

I know this is beyond a worthy cause, but the layers are very deep on this. It's not so much about NARAs as it is about CBS and television ratings. They could care less about jazz and as long as the contract is renewed NARAS is happy. I'm just a realist and will always do what I can but there are layers that need to be peeled away. Why don't people start by writing Mindi Abair who is the president of the LA Chapter and all the Jazz community that serves as governors. Let's see where they stand!,

I am in support of jazz music, classical music and blues worldwide to next year's Grammy Awards. Respect the legacy music in our schools and communities. If each Chapter fulfills this, ratings will soar, memberships will increase, and audiences will have new hope in the music industry and its historical impact on our children and youth.

An addition of real creative, improvisational music on the broadcast will counterbalance the preponderance of acts being displayed as opposed to actual creative musicians performing their craft.

Jazz music NEEDS the support of the The Recording Academy! There is much more to recorded music than is represented and promoted by your organization. The Recording Academy should represent a much broader diversity of music! Especially one of America's greatest contributions to music: Jazz.

It's about time to have the music that was invented in America and has been called the highest art form because it's not only art but it's spontaneous art that's "out there" the second it's created, to be a MAJOR part of the national music scene. When I hear about some of the "talent" out there in pop music being refered to as artists, I cringe. I'm not detracting from pop artists in general. Some of them are national treasures. Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, even groups such as Chicago and BS&T, George Benson...these people enriched and influenced our lives through their music, made us a little more soulful by just listening..but Justin Beber? Jay Z? I wouldn't mention their names in the same breath as would I Coltrane, Parker, Dizzy, Oscar Peterson or Brubeck/Desmond. It's an absurd injustice that the money men and the bottom line has dictated to us what is good and grammy-worthy in our country. It's all about the bottom line. People don't listen to jazz because not only is it not as accessible in clubs, radio, CDs, but it's not promoted on a national level so it's much easier to listen to the same old same old fare that one hears on their local AM stations and "sees" on TV...which brings me to my next point...sorry to rant on but this is important to me and to art/jazz world. Nowadays you rarely see a musical act on TV that doesn't have a huge light show and dancers, acrobats and whatever else they can find to subliminally draw your attention away from what you're really hearing. Today, the world is so visually oriented that nobody ever goes to hear a band but rather to "see" them. I'm done with the soapbox bit. Up with Jazz. Right on Jaijai. I played with your dad and your brother. Some of my fondest memories. Best, Rich
