Real world data and examples are critical to making math relevant and interesting for both STEM and non-STEM students. Please do all you can to bring real world data examples into both math and non-math curriculums. Implementation should include some of the following: Training students to use a spreadsheet to A) calculate a loan payment and amortization schedule, B) compare a loan to a lease over the long term, and C) calculate their GPA for their high school and different colleges they apply to. They should also be trained to use spreadsheet as mini databases to do basic statistics e.g. on datasets fromsports, crime and demographics available from public sources and/or informapl polling data gathered at their school. Please help prepare the next generation to both analyze and make financial and civic decisions by using math to have insights on what really is "fake news" and what is "too good to be true".

The system should be adaptive and responsive to the flaws in its performance, it should always work to get better results, be responsive to the students needs amongst other things, and it should not be stuck in a cycle of under performance or wishful thinking.

I am 100% behind reforming math education. I have suffered with too many students struggling to master useless skills. I can teach them data science. I want to teach them data science. And they want to learn.

The current high school math curriculum is wildly outdated, and irrelevant to life in today's modern world. We need to stop teaching math as separate subjects: geometry, algebra, calculus, etc, and move to a more integrated approach focused on math skills and technologies that will be useful in adult life: e.g., learning to use spreadsheets and other math software, summarizing and visualizing data, using functions to create simulations.

My wonderful, creative, talented, 15 year old daughter has always had difficulty with math. Next school year, she will (be required to) take Algebra II - just like every other public school student in the United States. And after making it through what I imagine will be the worst math year of her life, she will have learned nothing useful. I strained to find reasons that Algebra I and Geometry could be relevant to her (and here and there - real world examples), but not so with Algebra II. I've got nothing.

Wow, this is SO important. I work in Cybersecurity for a Fortune 200 bank, and the previous math curriculum is woefully off target. Statistics should be front and center, not secondary, and should be fully integrated with software tooling like Excel.

As a science teacher and STEAM coordinator (and former scientist), I can firmly state that the modern math curriculum is not relevant. Data science would be a critical addition to the curriculum and would assist greatly in making a change.

I frequently encounter geometry and trigonometry problems, and knowledge of these subjects were essential prerequisites to my undergraduate studies. So while I do not advocate dismissing them entirely, I believe that data science is vastly more useful to the working-age population as a whole.

Data manipulation is integral to almost every profession. Even if it is not used directly by a person it is still useful to understand how others arrive at a answers that affect our everyday lives.

Understanding Algebra II makes considerably less difference to employability today than understanding basic statistics and how data works. We imperil our kids and the economic future of America by doing what we've always done the way we've always done it.

My daughter is an advanced HS Student in IB Algebra II. Yet, she has no spreadsheet skills other than using it as a listing tool to track her book collection. Life is filled with estimations, mortgage and tax calculations, and need to discern information from data such as medical decisions, etc...
