I got to where I am today by paying for online courses to learn basics like excel and relational database concepts that are more and more the norm in businesses and careers and feel like as a country we can help stay competitive if every young american learns these and other data basics during their 13 years of full time, required education.

State governments (who set the Standards and resulting state-wide exams) need to include more Statistics & data work. When they do it, schools will follow. Likewise, teacher-ed programs need to prepare students so they feel confident to teach Stats & Data when they graduate.
