He is allowed his opinions and should not be tried in the Court of Public Opinion. UCL and the Royal Society didn't even have the guts to tell him of their decisions. Who decides what is 'correct' or 'incorrect'.? 70 years ago this country celebrated the fall of an evil dictatorship; I don't want to live in one, albeit, creeping in thru the back door. Every good wish to Sir Tim and Lady Mary.

Unfortunately I can only support this semi-anonymously. I don't want to lose my job.

To mis-peak is human...
A good man like Tim Hunt who has contributed so much to the world of science should not be left to walk alone because of one bad joke.
Anyways, I think he deserves better than the UCL (for their cowardly betrayal) and I hope he is given the redemption he deserves by another top research institution.

Tragic how a great scientist who only wants to work for the good can be brought down by politically correct media. Reinstate him with full honours.

So he's a sexist. There are millions of them. What he said whether in joke or not does not deserve his dismissal from his academic posts.

Summary dismissal for a crass joke? UCL has behaved disgracefully.

I totally agree, there's a painful irony in pressing the powers-that-be not to bow to social media pressure... by using social media pressure. Then again, I suppose it's the only real power the silent majority has to fight against such injustices, though sadly it entails the means justifying the ends.

I'll sign, but it sort of misses the whole point that this kind of thing shouldn't be decided by a plebiscite.

We need to get this mob behaviour under control and keep individual lapses in perspective.

Has no one seen the immensely popular TV show "Bones". In that 'scientific lab environment' the characters manifest Tim's comments. The girl scientists marry the guys in the lab, and occasionally cry when things go awry. Tim's comments were so light-hearted that the negative over-reaction aptly demonstrates the humorless, vicious vitriol that has always characterized the destructive 'unintended consequences' of PC and Feminism. Tim should have never tucked tail and resigned. And his wife sure wasn't in his corner - shame!
