This man has done nothing wrong. The feminists are the true sexists: Women can call to "kill all men" and not a peep out of them; some guy who has done amazing work to save women's lives makes a throw-away remark and they crucify him. Feminism is a sexist cult.

As someone who is currently doing their PhD in Chemistry, this incident helped me decide to stop perusing a career in academia. An environment where one "inappropriate" joke is enough to destroy a lifetime-earned reputation is not a safe environment for pursuing new ideas. I'm signing this petition to help bring some closure to this man.
To those who think that a "sexist" joke is damaging to women interested in STEM, ask yourselves this: how many young freethinkers - women AND men - looked at this witch-hunt with horror and decided that modern-day academia is not for them?
Who needs Nobel laureates in STEM when they have speech and thought police?

While the issue of the position of women in science is a very serious problem, the whole Tim Hunt affair is simply a charade.

This man's were taken out of context.
He is another victim of the politically correct feeding frenzy, that disdains nuance for literal minded ideology.

Becoming ever more sinister the way people are losing reputations or careers over what are just words, especially when the words are then used out of context.

It's obvious he was vilified for comments that were parsed to fit into some kind of hate speech he did not say.

Sir Tim Hunt has consistently supported young scientists on many different levels and independently of their gender. This is obvious to anyone who knows him even a little bit and can be easily discovered by any journalist who cares to ask around. This is also what the ERC, the Royal Society, and UCL have taken advantage of for years. Their treatment of Tim is simply deplorable!

I work as a Software Engineer and I have met a fair amount of sexist men in the course of my job. But the vast majority have been lovely. I even (gasp) met and fell in love with my husband at work. Humour is necessary for working with so many men, and you make it so much harder for us when we're perceived to be rabid feminists who can't take a joke. Feminism good. Rabid man-hating feminism bad.

I'm a 1970's science graduate of UCL. I'm completely appalled at the disproportionate treatment of Tim Hunt by my old college.

I'm all for gender equality but this is beyond that, it's a hateful, acid, and totally excessive response built up by social media.
