The university finally reversed the policy and reinstated our members. It took a long time to get here but we kept pushing until they listened. Stay vigilant because we have to make sure this never happens again.

As many of you know, the University has recently decided to change the rules and qualifications for the Irish Guard. Members must now be a part of the band for at least one year prior to joining. More importantly, current members who have worked hard to preserve the tradition, spirit, and integrity of the Fighting Irish have lost their spots. The core values of the Irish Guard have been uprooted. It's time to come together Irish and work hard to bring back the tradition.

The administration is finally paying attention to these numbers. We need a final surge to hit the thousand mark before they finalize their decision on the guard.

Seeing this level of support reminds me that we are not alone in remembering why this tradition matters. It has been an exhausting road to defend these spots but your commitment keeps me going.

Reaching one hundred signatures feels like a heavy weight has shifted. My lungs are tired from these meetings but seeing this support reminds me why we cannot let this tradition fade away.

I find it highly suspect that a University as highly steeped in Tradition would so quickly disband a signature group identified with Notre Dame lore so quickly. It only makes me wonder what the next subject on the Tradition Chopping Block will be. Why are we Homogenizing things that make Notre Dame exceptional.

Total joke. I was in the band back in 09 and we grew up wanting to be in the Guard. They are killing part of what makes game day special.

ND just feels like it is losing its soul lately. really sad to see the school turn its back on the students who actually care about these traditions.

This is honestly ridiculous. Ken Dye keeps trying to change things that dont need fixing. Leave the Guard alone and stop messing with our history.

HI - what a great idea for this petition. This is John Adams, class of 1986. I launched a petition on Change.Org that is getting a great response as is this petition. It can be found at http://chn.ge/1ohDQa9 Whoever started this petition, please reach out to me at the following email : [email protected] ; once we are done with both petition drives, we should aggregate all of the signatures and find a strategy to approach the university. Let me know. Go Irish!!

The Ken Dye and possibly the ND Administration have lost sight of the fact that they are merely custodians of ND and its traditions. Changing the Irish Guard to fit Dye's vision of what it should be against the wishes of the vas majority of ND alumni and students is absurd. We will be around ND long after Dye is gone assuming that ND doesn't drive us away. This is very disappointing even for the ND administration.
