On June 4th 2012, Fanfiction.net decided to post the following: "Please note we would like to clarify the content policy we have in place since 2002. FanFiction.Net follows the Fiction Rating system ranging from Fiction K to Fiction M. Although Fiction Ratings goes up to Fiction MA, FanFiction.Net since 2002 has not allowed Fiction MA rated content which can contain adult/explicit content on the site. FanFiction.Net only accepts content in the Fiction K through Fiction M range. Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA and has not been allowed on the site since 2002. " This means that many works currently posted as Mature will be purged from the site because site members or administrators have deemed the work to be outside of the "M" rating. This petition's purpose is to use numbers to convince Fanfiction.net to come up with a reasonable alternative for authors of mature content and the audiences who enjoy it. There are a number of reasonable alternatives that could keep the entire community happy including... - A reprisal of the "MA" rating option and a notice sent to all flagged authors that work must be placed in the higher rating within a specified time period or it will be removed from the site. - Alterations made to the TOS and site design to ensure the site does everything in its power to make sure mature content is available to mature members only, via electronic signature verification like similar sites.
