"Branding expediency" has no place in art or awards for art. The medal is an award for excellence not a marketing label.

This is appalling, not to mention sexist, classist, and insensitive.

Absolutely correct that this should happen

This is a ridiculous decision and should be reversed.

This is outrageous- what inspirational illustrations has Andrew Carnegie produced, eh? NONE.

Now is not the time to remove a woman's contribution

Names like Kate Greenaway matter. She was a hugely important illustrator and taking her name off the award seems a ridiculous thing to do. Bring it back!

Without the Kate Greénwaystration would not have been recognized.

Stop cancelling women in this way. Her illustrations were crucial in publishing.

This happening far to often from people who have no right to decide these issues

Her name should be re-enstated for this award. You can not change something so important, just to make life easier.

Restore the proper name in the award. A celebrated female illustrator deserves to be honored above a male industrialist. Do the right thing!

Kate Greenaway's name should never have been removed.

Male and rich replacing highly talented and female? Wrong! Return the medel name to Kate Greenaway please!

The Kate Greenaway medal is well known. I recognise the name. Representation and recognition of the historical role of women is important.

If CILIP wants to be inclusive, why strip the name of a distinguished illustrator who was a woman from this award? And why would you deprive today's illustrators with a recognisable link with such great illustrators as Edward Ardizzone and Quentin Blake?

This decision to change the name of the award is about money before talent and her skills should be recognised.

What ‘family’ is that, then?

How absurd & inappropriate to remove a renowned illustrator's name from an award for illustration, only to replace it with an industrialist & corporation. In addition to the sheer disrespect, it detracts from the value of both this and the current Carnegie writing award, as it's very likely both public and media will mix them up in common usage.
