We have had some great and not so great music teachers. Mr. Griffith has been the best music teacher since Mrs. Kazda. The orchestra has always played second fiddle to the band. I wonder if the children of the Board Members and the Superintendent played in the orchestra? Maybe they would have considered the great difference between string and wind instruments if they had. It's a shame that the District found a way to pay for a new football field that the taxpayers said, "no" to, but they can't find the money for a 3rd year orchestra teacher to stay. The School Board and Superintendent need to get their priorities and finances straight.

I completely agree, when I found out about the band situation I completely freaked out, the principal, and anyone involved in making this decision is completely flawed in there thinking and needs some serious rethinking.

I don't really know him or talk to him besides once when he told me to stop running... so. But I'll say keep because I know many like him, so GO GRIFFITH!!!

Mr. Griffith is one of the best Orchestra directors I have ever met, if I had the choice to say that there is "...no longer need an orchestra director to learn," I wouldn't say it, it would just be a sentence I over thought of and nothing would change. Change is a good thing but there is can also be bad changes.

The school district is making a bad decision by "letting go" Mr. Griffith. By doing this, it affects the kids in 6th and 7th grade, as well as enrollment numbers in the orchestra program.

Mr. Griffith sparked a love for orchestral music, and now it is an area I am most successful in. There is not a single person whom this decision will benefit. Take away the fiscal motivations, and at its core is the loss of an extraordinary teacher.

My daughter had 3 wonderful years with this teacher. She’s now moving On to high school but I’d like to see future children get this same experience.

That would be a great point to bring up. After I wrote this, I learned from a professor that many universities do NOT teach the other ensembles to their students. For example, if you say you want to study orchestra/strings, that is all you study and you stay on that track with no exposure to band/choir. I just happen to be at a school that wants us to be exposed and qualified for any job. I didn't realize many schools are not like this, which means many people are NOT qualified to teach outside of their specialty. Feel free to use anything I've said to present to the school board. I plan to email them as well, although I do not think I can make an appearance in person due to being away at school. Best of luck!

I hope all your hard work wins the day. This school district is administration top heavy. Teachers are never paid enough in my opinion. Batavia teachers work hard, and are invested in our children.

Mr.Griffith is the most dedicated and amazing teacher I have known. He is creative with his music teaching and makes it fun for the kids. He spent countless hours in helping the students improving their music. He is supportive and let each student feels that he/she is unique in his classroom. Music not only requires tremendous dedication to practice but also a creative mind. Batavia is known for its award winning music program. We need a dedicated orchestra teacher to help our students be the best. Our band teachers are wonderful but orchestra instruments are completely different from band instruments. We have many amazing orchestra students at Rotolo who are principals and concert masters at orchestras outside of Rotolo. How can we expect our band teachers to be at the par level with these students to help them further their music learning and help Rotolo orchestra be the best? It is not right to compromise the music learning opportunity for our students. Please renew Mr. Griffith teaching contract with Rotolo. His teaching not only effects a few students but the whole Batavia school district. Thank you.

As a music teacher and resident with a small child, I want my son to be able to have the option of playing in an Orchestra. Asking the Band director to take on an Orchestra is not ideal. Each instrument is like a different foreign language and if a student learns bad posture, or hand positions can lead to arthritis later in life. Not to mention habits that will be challenging to break. Please try to figure out another way to raise funds, and keep the arts alive in Batavia.

This is outrageous! Batavia's Music Department is the reason many people move to this area. It is THE best, and we cannot leave our children without out THE best band and orchestra teachers.
