I've had a band director as an orchestra director, and he couldn't teach orchestra to save his life. He had good taste in music and he enjoyed what he did, but he just couldn't teach. Examples? At UIL, we got 2's and 3's: what's even worse about that is that he was completely fine with it!

Orchestra is not band. As someone who plays in both, I can confidently say that the replacement is not acceptable and will hinder students' development in and passion for orchestra.

I know this is my 3rd time commenting, but this has to be said.
I remember when I was in 4th grade , my friends were telling me how great Mr. Griffith was. Because of this I was appointed excited to go to middle school and start playing in orchestra. But now I hear that one of my favorite teachers is going to be let go? He makes us laugh everyday and is a great teacher. A band teacher cannot provide the same education as a real orchestra teacher. Winds and strings are completely different , they don't have that love for orchestra that Mr. Griffith has. Can they teach Vibrato, intonation, how to play a better sound? Band is different. The school board is making a big mistake letting Me. Griffith go. He is a great educator and man.

It boggles my mind that you would get rid of one of the pillars of the orchestra program. He takes kids that have just learned how to play and teaches them to be musicians, all while they are having fun. Not every teacher has that skill. If you measure success by the retention rates, I suggest you look at how many kids are joining orchestra in high school and you will see how good he is.

Where do I start. I’m in band, and even I’m outraged by this. We have over 100 staff members in Rotolo, and the one you choose to get rid of is a kind, loving, teacher that is actually a great teacher! We had this thing called career day a few weeks ago, and Mr. Griffith came in and talked about how much he loved his job. Looking at this situation, and remembering that just breaks my heart.

I have played with Chris and know that he is a dedicated teacher and musician. To replace a string orchestra teacher with a band teacher is a disgrace!

My daughter is in 5th grade orchestra and after seeing the 7th graders perform and being around Mr. Griffith and his enthusiasm she decided despite her insecurity with how she currently plays that she wants to continue. These decisions at a young age really do impact their future choices and I don’t want these kids to be shortchanged, especially in a district well known for its music program.

Proper music education is invaluable to the overall educational experience of any student. Even though band directors are skilled in music education, the skills they have are not correct for orchestral education.
