They earned that experience !!! They sacrificed financially. They committed to their education. Recognize the accomplishment !!! Stop making people a bunch of numbers.

The frustration created by this uninformed change is that our ticket number is not increased for the large commencement ceremony. I had my entire family planning to come into town to attend my departmental graduation because there was no limit on seats for the smaller graduation, but now my family can't watch me graduate, or share that moment with me, because I only have ten tickets. The removal of the departmental graduations has removed the intimacy from graduation, and I am no longer looking forward to the day I "receive" my diploma. Now I'm dreading it.

Early morning. The birds are chirping. As I remember they did at 6:12 am as I sat in studio from a long night of work. But this time they are chirping differently. The sun is hitting my face. There is a breeze. People are making their way up the meadow. There is a maze of plants, I'll go there before leaving. I just passed the green house. Everyone is waiting. All I see are familiar faces surrounding me. faces that I have known for the past four years. We take selfies. Selfies with each other. Selfies with my family. Selfies with their families. We walk. Together.

This is the real ceremony in my mind. Who else would I want to stand by than the people that I've worked so hard side by side with all this time?

Very unfair to impact this graduating class. How much does a simply smaller efforr take for their graduation? It seems like we are starting to lose the bits of what makes CalPoly special and become a big school that doesn't listen to its students, families or teaching communities. Just so sad!

Even though I am not graduating this year, I would still like department ceremonies so I can specifically see my friends in my major, but also in other majors graduate on a more personal level than the large ceremony.

This completely ruins everything that this special day should be about. Department ceremonies give students a chance to be close with peers, professors and their families on one of the most important days of their lives. Bring them back.
