Bring Back the Buses

We live on Glebe Rd a high traffic area on a normal day and extremely busy during peak hours , with both parents working and an elderly family member with foot problem the buses for my 6year old is a blessing.without the buses we have a safety issue to allow my 6year old to walk to school,please reconsider giving us back a bus. Thanks

The change in policy appears to be more about saving the school district money on transportation costs than on what is actually safe or practical for kids. This policy needs to be reconsidered.

The kids need the buses. Bikes are getting more rights on the roads than elementary kids going to school.

I have a son starting K at CBES. We live on a highly traveled "cut through" street that does not have a sidewalk and has several cars parked on the road. It will a very long time before he is allowed to walk this street by himself and it is certainly not hazard free.

Our streets are already challenging for both pedestrians and cars. There is no path between my home and Charles Barret that would allow my child to stay out of traffic or even to consistently be readily visible to traffic. It is clear that whoever determined that bus service would be discontinued did not actually evaluate the neighborhood to ensure all children would have a hazard-free route to school. Please re-evaluation before tragedy strikes.

This is,a,very dangerous proposition unless there is access,to formal sidewalks the entire journey for each child.

Don't sacrifice child safety for transportation department savings. Make the right decision NOW to bus elementary students appropriately! ACPS MUST bus all children whose walking paths have no sidewalks, or are in hazardous areas like are high-traffic areas and car/bus commuter zones,

Beverley Hills and Northridge do not have enough sidwalks for small children to be safely walking to school! Bring back the buses!

The neighborhood surrounding Charles Barrett is not pedestrian friendly.

This change was not well thought out, and the implementation without any input from parents and neighbors is upsetting, at best. Student safety should be a priority!

We have 2 children (rising 4th & 5th graders) attending Charles Barrett this upcoming school year who still need bus transportation. This new policy does not reasonably consider student safety - nor did it give the community the opportunity to share input.

This transportation is needed for these students.

We were fortunate enough to just barely make the cut but fellow neighbors a block away did not. The distance to CBES at a mile is not a valid requirement for ELEMENTARY age children especially considering Valley as main steep hill and main traffic flow for the Dash buses and cut over traffic to 395. I also strongly support review of my Beverly Hill neighbors with inadequate sidewalks for K-5 ages. Exceptions should be made for our young students who previously had bus routes and now are taken away.

I HAVE TWO CHILDREN AT CBES. THEY ARE UNABLE TO WALK TO SCHOOL USING SIDEWALKS. THEY WOULD NEED TO WALK ON THE ROAD IN BETWEEN PARKED CARS. THE ROUTE IS NOT SAFE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN.

Parent of a soon-to-be kindergartener at CBES who is not capable of walking nearly a mile to/from home each day.

Please bring the old bus routes back for Charles Barrett Elementary. Safety is of greatest concern, for all grades but especially for our youngest travelers.

We have no sidewalks on our narrow street with a sharp turn and several blind spots. Many cars are parked in the street, children will be forced to walk in the middle of the street.

Our three kids (kinder, 3rd grade, and 5th grade) who will be at Charles Barrett this year still need bus service. The street we live on has no sidewalks and our neighborhood is not generally the most pedestrian family. Please reconsider this unexpected decision that was made without warning or any input from families.

Would request delay in implementation and follow public vetting process similar to redistricting,where as this happened with no notification or coordination.
