Sign this petition to call on the National Media Commission of Ghana to rid our TV screens of all these unregulated GET-RICH-QUICK-SCHEMES we are bombarded with daily.

When Ghana announced that she was going digital, we thought it was a golden opportunity to increase competition, broadcasting content (entertainment, information, etc.) and coverage. It was laudable. Little did we know that it was going to open a Pandora’s Box. Instead of contents that inform us and promote critical thinking; innovation; and lasting social values, our screens have rather become a safe haven for ‘spiritualists’ who promise to double, or quadruple your money instantaneously.

One might say that the viewer should exercise discretion and take charge of what he/she views. True, but we should know that there are several vulnerable and desperate people among us. No one is spared the 10 seconds of advertisement to make you rich quickly as you skip through the channels, a subliminal advertising strategy that locks into your subconscious mind. Today, as we face a greater challenge with COVID-19, students are home because schools are shut, several workers have been laid off and businesses are collapsing. This increases the number of innocent and desperate people who are constantly being exposed to these GET-RICH-QUICK-SCHEMES. We are unduly exposing our future generations and depriving them of creativity and hardworking values.

By signing this petition, you are helping us appeal to the National Media Commission of Ghana, to regulate the contents on our TV screens; protect the desperate and vulnerable from these unregulated and unproven money-making schemes; and most importantly, #BRINGBACKSOMESANITYONTV.
