Universities need to stop treating mature young adult students as precious little flowers. As a McMaster Engineering student who has also dealt with this kind of garbage I stand with you!

Universities all over are attempting to suppress engineering students and there traditions. Very little universities are as bad as Laurentian. I say do it anyways. Fuck that.

The engineers have a royal right to purple. They also are a distinct group that relies on the camaraderie formed in frosh to survive the brutal four years of school. This need to white wash frosh is going to remove school traditions that make programs unique. So bring back the purple.

I am so tired of Canadian Universities being ashamed of their engineering society traditions for no reason other than the fact that when THEY went through it, it was exclusionary and involved a lot of offensive content. We've evolved, but we'd like to keep some of the harmless traditions that give us our identity. What's next, no more Iron Ring Ceremony?

Purple day changed my life. I was lost, wandering around the world, trying to find out who I was. But then, suddenly, I experienced a moment, a divine moment that changed everythin I was. I became holy, I became part of a group. And this group, soon became my family. This moment was purple day! It was like getting baptized in this purple pool filled with life. I emerged from the dark coloured water a new person!

It may not seem important but as an engineer, it is HUGE! These traditions connects all engineers together to collectively take on (and succeed at) the challenge that is engineering!

Traditions should be kept, especially if they present zero real danger to students or anyone else.

As the hardest undergrad degree, engineers need to stick together and one way to show a sense of community are the traditions we have and continue. As an engineering student, I've experienced how my school's traditions have tried to be changed, and how we've stood in the face of adversity to keep our eng family together

Engineering Culture is important to all past and future engineering students. This is unacceptable!

Perhaps the administration would like to have public scrutiny of THEIR planned events, with veto rights on the table, if safety/security/decorum questions are raised? Prof pub nite? Possible drinking & driving. Faculty pot luck? Salmonella & botulism can kill. Micromanage your students and they may turn the "microscope" on you. The ban is rubbish - get your collective admin heads out of your Southern orifices & let the students have some fun. Signed, A Parent.

Everyone deserves a day to meet and spend time with people in their program outside of classes! Volunteering with fall orientation week 2015 and welcoming first year engineering students was by far one my favorite experiences at university in 3 years of being here, and I'm definitely doing it again.
