Bring back phones in schools
Hello Florida law makers i would like to ask if you could repeal the House Bill 1105 (the phone law)
Here are some reasons why you should repeal the bill
- There are digital activities on the phone, like Quizizz or Blooket, but why not just use computers? Well, sometimes there are not enough computers for everyone to use, so teachers resort to phones.
- Phones help us communicate with parents and friends. For example, if you don't feel good and you want to contact your mom or dad to ask if you can get picked up without having to go to the office. Also, if your friend has not turned in an assignment, you can text them telling them to turn it in.
- Phones at lunch will help the kids not do stupid things, like throw food. They need something to occupy them, and even though they need to keep themselves occupied, that's not what kids want to do. I know because I am a kid, and no one at the table wants to play Uno; all they want to do is play on their phones.
- I have spoken to many teachers, and they think that phones would help them because, with the blocked games on the computer, there is nothing to do when we are done with our work.
- The access to phones at lunch lets us go to apps like eCampus and Skyward to check grades and what is for homework. If you forget to do your homework, you can check it. But without phones, there is no way to check, and lunch is the perfect time to do so.
A real example of why phones should be allowed is because, one time, there were 50 cheerleaders, and the office only had 2 people working and 3 phones. So, when practice got canceled, all of the cheerleaders had to tell their parents to come pick them up. You can already tell that 50 cheerleaders and 2 workers and 3 phones is not enough to get a hold of all of the parents easily, so all of the people were stressed about having to call 50 parents. When you're stressed, you mess up, but if we were allowed to use our phones, it would have all been easier.
Allowing phones in schools could benefit both students and teachers. It would help improve communication, keep students engaged, and provide a practical way to manage downtime during lessons. Phones could also give teachers a way to keep students focused and entertained during breaks or after completing tasks.
All I ask is for a change in the rules—at the very least, let students use their phones during lunch breaks. It would help maintain a healthier, more balanced school environment. From a student's perspective, I believe many of us would appreciate the chance to have phones back in school. It would not only make school life more enjoyable, but also help us stay connected and engaged in our learning.
Thank you for considering this request.
