Bring Back Old VT Logo and Slogan
Hello all,
For decades, we have been known for our classic VT logo of the pylons and our signature slogan “Invent the Future”. Both have created and established such a culture that cannot be replaced or made greater by any measure. We can all agree, from students, to staff, to alumni, and more, that we have found ourselves every now and then saying “Invent the Future” in reference to some small genius idea you’ve come up with. Although the slogan is fairly new (since the 1980’s), it has easily become well respected across Hokie Nation and deserves to stay.
As for the pylons, they are a key representation of our core values and everything else Virginia Tech stands for. Brotherhood, Honor, Leadership, Sacrifice, Service, Loyalty, Duty, and Ut Prosim - our motto. These pylons not only remind us of what we are here to accomplish at Virginia Tech, but they also represent men who have died for our country. A new more “modern” version of the VT as our logo could never embody what the Pylons at War Memorial do nor could it ever symbolize the service our national military, corp, and students and staff are dedicated to.
We all understand change is vital to the success of a community, but it doesn’t make sense for a school so bound to its beautiful and timeless traditions to abandon them now. Virginia Tech is a school that very seldom disappoints. Unfortunately, this time, they did.
The new logo and slogan are simple and plain - words that have never been used to describe our school. Beautiful, traditional, proud, smart, HOME - these are the words that describe us. If you agree to have them bring back our cherished slogan and logo, we can make effective change that benefits the school as a whole. Besides, what good is claiming your role if you can’t invent the future?
