Our son's principal, Mrs. Heidi Williams, of Jeffereson Lighthouse Elementary school in Racine, Wisconsin, was recently arrested for bringing a small pocket knife to school FOR PROTECTION. Our son's school, Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary, is one of the few 5 star schools in our area, and it houses mostly gifted children who are in the gifted education program. It is an amazing school with amazing staff. However, this school is also in a VERY BAD NEIGHBORHOOD! The whole community is trashed by its residents. Every morning that we walk our son to the school, there are beer bottles, condom boxes, etc littered all over the streets. That area has a high crime rate. Local kids have come onto the playground and harassed our children while they are at recess. Last year, our son and his friends were playing (all 2nd graders) and a group of older children from the neighborhood came onto the playground and tried to start fights with the kids and threw food at them. The playground is an open area, so there is no way to keep other kids or people off the playground. Teachers were out there, but because it's a smaller school, they don't have enough staff to help watch over the playground, so they only allow a couple of classes out each time. Mrs. Williams just started at Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary School last year, and she's been an amazing asset to this school. She truly cares about our children. She always welcomed them with hugs and smiles. Enough good things can't be said about this principal! She honestly CARES, which not too many educators do these days! She wanted to see our kids succeed. She also had a passion for special education, as she is also a mother of a special needs child herself. She was one of our son's biggest advocates, other than me and my husband, when it came to his IEP meetings for his special health concerns. She would move mountains for these kids. If she brought a pocket knife to school, then she was terrified! She didn't bring it to harm anyone. I'm not going to lie. The school district needs to move that school and put it in a better area. The residents in that area DO NOT care about their community or their neighborhood. It's even dangerous to cross the street to walk our children into the school because the traffic is dangerous there. Those people don't care if they run over anyone. Even when the crossing guard tries to stop traffic, she's almost been hit by cars. There are so many issues with that school being where it is. If Mrs. Williams thought she had to protect herself from the locals, then that tells you something. This NEEDS to stop! If faculty don't even feel safe, then the school district and the Racine Police Dept need to start doing their jobs to make these faculty members and students feel safe again! What else was she supposed to do when no one is willing to help her???? She is there to educate children in grades K-5th grade. She is there to care for our children and protect our children. How can she do any of that when she doesn't feel safe anymore? BRING MRS. WILLIAMS BACK!!! DON'T TAKE HER AWAY FROM OUR SCHOOL WHEN SHE HAS DONE SO MUCH TO MAKE THAT SCHOOL A WONDERFUL SCHOOL!!!!
