A cell phone is private property unless provided by the school district for official business only. Therefore, when it was stolen and its contents removed/shared, that constitutes theft by the perpetrator. In no way should a teacher be fired or forced to resign for conduct off hours on her own property, unless expressly prohibited in her employment contract. Reinstate Mrs. Arthur's employment with full back pay. Criminally prosecute the individual who stole the phone. And, she should file a civil suit against the individual minor child and his/her parents for invasion of privacy as well as the school district for violation of her rights to due process.

How is it that a person can be held responsible for another's illegal/immoral actions? Do we hold General Motors accountable for the doings of a drunk driver? This is pure insanity.

Poor judgement on the teacher's part, very poor judgement on the students part, but by far the worst on the part of the administration!

She has a right to take pics for her husband. Yes, phone should have been locked - but this kid is a thief. There is nothing wrong with what she did. The school should be humiliated for firing her. I hope you all lose your jobs and she sues you into poverty for what you have done to her.

Once again not holding the children responsible for their actions. You can't have a teacher lose her livelihood because a student STOLE her phone.

The contents of her phone are her private property. The student who stole her phone should be expelled and prosecuted. There should be ZERO repercussions for the teacher as she did nothing wrong. What the hell is wrong with people these days.

You should expect to have a right to privacy and for people who steal you things to pay a price for their behavior. Punishing someone for their choices that they make behind closed doors with the expectation that it remains private should not be allowed. Plus - having her life so terribly violated is unconscionable at 16 you know better than to embarrass someone like that - its called cyber bullying and just because she is an adult doesn't make the 16 year olds actions any less egregious. Shame on him and the people that participated.

While the best way to have avoided this whole thing would have been to not have the pics on the phone in the first place or at least have secured the phone with a pass key's BUT having said that, it's her phone and her privacy that had been violated and the student(s) should be punished not her. Everyone should be able to operate under the reasonable assumption that their privacy can and will be respected. Punish the criminal actors and not the victim.

Sue the student and school district. Student committed theft, disseminated pornographic material, invaded teachers reasonable right to privacy.

Thank you to the students who set this petition up for their teacher. It's mind boggling to me that she is being punished instead of punishing the children who in a sense stole her property and used it against her(yes pictures on her phone are property). The defense that they are 16 and do stupid things is absolutely ridiculous. Yes we do things at 16 that are dumb, but most of us learn a lesson from it through consequences. Her consequence for them invading her privacy is now the loss of her ability to pay her bills and these brats get to giggle and move on with the rest of their lives continuing to do stupid things without consequences.

The Teacher is being punished, it's the student who needs to be punished. If they don't give her job back she needs to sue UCHS!!!

Leigh Anne is a phenomenal teacher and is yet another in the line of good educators this district has mistreated. Do the right thing, Union.
