The first official Michigan State Fair was held in 1849, which is claimed by the state of Michigan to be the oldest state fair in the United States. The first fair was held in Detroit, Michigan. Subsequent fairs were held in other cities until it received its permanent home in 1905 at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit. There are a number of summer events in the Detroit area around Labor Day but few have the variety that the State Fair has. The fair brings the country to the inner city. Many kids would never have the chance to pet a sheep or see a horse show. There are all kinds of unique attractions for people of all ages. One of the fair's most popular attractions is it's racing pigs show. The State Fair is also one of the least expensive events in the metro Detroit area. At least the fair is family friendly and provides entertainment to a lot of people who can't afford to go elsewhere. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO SAVE THE MICHIGAN STATE FAIR AND TO RETURN IT TO IT'S ORIGINAL LOCATION AT 8 MILE AND WOODWARD AVENUE!!!!
