This unexplained action has already spread fear, despair, uncertainty and damage of the community spirit.
One could ask: are there winners here?

I read the story on the Arlington Advocate page, and frankly am shocked that the "turmoil" is the fact that Father Nick did not stop people from posting dissenting remarks on social media. The parishioners of St. Athanasius live in the United States, and have a right to freedom of speech. Even if their opinions are crazy, they have a right to their opinion. Father Nick can absolutely not tell people what to say or write. It seems that the members of the PC who went whining to the metropolitan about Fr. Nick not shutting them up are ignorant of US laws. Shame on them for behaving so childishly, and shame on Metropolitan Methodias for listening to their rants. Father Nick Kastanas has a 30+ year record of serving the people as dictated by our Orthodox faith. In that role, he has been as perfect as a human being can be. Every voice on this page is testament to his exceptional ability to serve as Jesus himself would have done. My elderly parents do not have an ability to voice their opinions on this page, but my mother gasped and wept at the news that Father Nick was removed, and my father called it an abuse of power from very small men. They considered this their parish, and now no longer want to step foot in the door. Father Nick, during his last address, wholeheartedly encouraged peace. The PC and the Metropolitan need to understand that the people feel very hurt. many will leave the church. Some will stay, and some will return. It will never be the same. Bring Father Nick back to this Church, and for the love of God, replace the PC with adults who have actually grown up and know how to deal with adversity and are competent in solving problems.

This should have been handled in a kinder way for the sake of Father Nick, his family and the entire community. Whatever the issues, they could have been resolved quietly without causing this explosion and devastation to these families.

Fr. Nick was wonderful to even those outside his parish.
I'm saddened to hear of this turmoil and of Fr. Nick to this church. He did wonderful outreach to the Arl community. It will be a huge loss to all of us.

I have known Father Nicholas Kastanas when growing up and going to St Georges and Assumption of Virgin Mary, He is a very good Priest, I do not understand why they would let him go. His Father was a Priest and he followed in his footsteps. Thank You

This is shameful to blame Father Nick for the turmoil from the council and parishioners. They should all be ashamed of themselves to let this happen to the beloved Father Nick who loves our church, God and all the people. He has been there for my entire family over the years in comforting us all and helping us make our faith stronger during hard times with the loss of my loved ones. Please reinstate Father Nick. We love you and as you always say "I love you more". Prayers are with you and your family.

You mean to tell me that with all the signatures over 2,000 the congregation in tears and the children upset, etc .the internet, facebook, Yu Tube exploding, that Fr. Nick cannot be reinstated. Get the Metropolis to do their job, it is awful, more than awful, immoral and cruel what they have done. I just cannot stop thinking about it, and to tell you the truth, at this time, my mother is failing in her health and I could use the kind, sweet, Godly words that flow from Fr. Kastanas not put on, it is who he is. Leave the Diocese, keep the church and the congregation that love him, and put him back at St. Athanasius.and fire the board, new elections. How can those board members even show their faces, have they no heart----no they have stone hearts like the Metropolitan. It will turn around, this is not over!!! If you cannot leave the diocese, then let us all find a way to put this kind soul back where he belongs, to us, the people, the congregation. This outpouring of love was certainly not expected by the Metropolis, Cowards they are, and it is a shame, but let us continue this fight. That how it will turn things around. do not let this candle of love go out.

I have had numerous encounters with Father Nick and can't say enough about how kind and giving he has been to me and my boyfriends family
He has always been there for those in need
I am amazed at his ability to always give 110% of his time to those in need.
This is a sad day when a good man and priest is let go
My prayers to Father Nick and I pray he is re-instated.

our children have been waking up in the middle of the night crying for father Nick. This was a disgusting act by Methodios. Its sad that we need to find a new church and Greek school to attend after so many years.
Love and blessings to Father Nick!
