The late Colin Hill did so much good when he ran Exeter Speedway and it would be a fitting tribute to him for the sport to return to Exeter.

A highly worthy cause. The County Ground was an intrinsic part of Exeter's community identity in the years it hosted speedway - there was nothing more pleasurable as a student than doing the walk across the city and getting engrossed in a night of racing competition a million miles away from the university library yet so close to hand. At a time when there are concerns about the provision of genuinely public spaces in our towns and cities (ie communal areas where we can rub shoulders and chill out) speedway offers this and an extraordinarily simple yet beautiful competing format. It played its part alongside the riverside, the cathedral close and the Dartmoor fringes in helping forge a civic identity: it should be given the chance to do so in Exeter again.

Speedway is an amazing sport. We need it to be recognised for riders who do a fantastic job risking their lives to entertain the fans
