This text originally appeared on a paper print out in front of the gate on the Constitution Hill entrance to St Clements Primary. Unfortunately, despite it not touching school property, the school removed it.

"If you are reading this then you sometimes use the Constitution Opening entrance to the school for drop-off or pick-up, or both. You or your child/children may or may not sometimes cycle or scoot this way to school. If you do, you will be aware of the blanket ban the school has imposed on cycling or scooting anywhere on the school premises as a result of a single accident on the main school roadway involving a child and the speed hump.

Despite pointing out on numerous occasions that cycling across the field from Constitution Opening presents no risk, and moreover that this provides a valuable chance for new riders to practice their skills in a safe environment, as well as highlighting the sheer joy our children derive from pedalling across this space, the school and Trust decision-makers have refused to even enter into a dialogue.

I am therefore asking that if you feel it would be reasonable to ask the school leadership to reconsider their total ban on cycling/scooting on the grounds, to please sign the petition that will
be at the Constitution Opening entrance for the rest of this week.

Our children have had a rough year with very few liberties allowed them. Please help try and reinstate one precious liberty that they relish and which has been denied them without good consideration."

We the undersigned call on the School and Trust to reconsider the ban on cycling/scooting within the school grounds, particularly when entering/leaving via Constitution Opening. We believe there are simple improvements/actions that could be carried out that would enable the children to continue to ride/scoot safely all the way to school.
