Dear Fairfax County Office of the Fire Marshal,

"Taking Away Curbside Parking is a Liability for the Local Government of Fairfax County" Having sufficient parking in your neighborhood is vital. Having limited parking (2 spaces) creates a safety issue for many residents of Spring Woods. Parking is unreachable for a quarter of a mile to half of a mile from the neighborhood, requiring residents to walk long distances (even during nighttime) to get to and from their parked vehicles. This situation makes it unsafe and dangerous for residents of Spring Woods.

"Danger and Inconvenience for the Less Able" Another reason why eliminating curbside parking will cause issues for residents, is that handicapped and senior residents who are living at their sons, daughters, in-laws homes will not have the ability to walk to their close by cars. This causes further inconvenience for the already inconvenienced less able.

"More Than Two Individuals Living in Each Home" Amongst the many other reasons why an adequate amount of parking is vital, there are many cases where families have more than two vehicles. The cost of living for young adults in the Northern Virginia area has sky-rocketed making it difficult, if not impossible, to purchase a home of their own. Young adults and recent graduates living at home means more vehicles in the household.

"Open for Vandalism"
Not having your car nearby causes for a higher chance of vandalism. There was an incident on Donegal Lane in Springfield, VA where all of the residents of Spring Woods are not forced to park their vehicles.

"The Value of Homes in Spring Woods"
The value of homes in Spring Woods is sure to drop, due to the irrational decision to take away the only possible parking. Residents of Spring Woods who have lived there for over ten years are now not only having to deal with the issue of extremely limited parking, but also being asked to help pay for the costs of adding the additional parking, which still will not be enough.

Surrounding neighborhoods, as well as other nearby Fairfax County communities are not dealing with the stresses that come with taking away something so vital, and neither should the residents of Spring Woods. It is preposterous and partial to take away curbside parking in a neighborhood where visitor parking is non-existent, and the cost of building is outrageous and far-fetched because no one can come to an agreement. There is more of a liability issue with not having the curb parking that the neighborhood has had for over ten years without a trace of an issue, than having the curb be available for parking. There has not been a fire hazard issue for over ten years, do not fix something that has not been broken!

For the good of our new, as well as long time residents, and to preserve the quality of Spring Woods homes, we call upon you to join a growing petition to keep curbside parking in the Spring Woods Community.
