- Cougar time is part of oakton culture and is something treasured by many students. If it wasn’t for cougar time for the past 3 years i most likely would have failed a lot of my classes

This year, I am a junior at OHS who is taking 5 AP courses and have other extracurricular activities. In my case, I need CT to study and review over tests, notes, etc. with teachers, so that I, myself, can excel in class. I believe that other students are in a similar situation as I'm in. because of this, CT gives students the extra time to get homework done early, study for upcoming tests, and review over future material. Removing CT would not only cause trouble for the students who desperately need CT to study, but it also harms certain teachers' schedules because of some review sessions they hold during CT. In conclusion, please reconsider this idea of removing CT and think about its consequences.

If the school board wishes to maintain any sort of trust between themselves and the student body then this is a very unwise decision on their part. The directors of this school have already fractured the relationship by the numerous strict and dictatorial changes that they have passed within the last few years. Past or current US/VA students will recognize the similarities between this fragmented relationship and that of the 13 colonies and England prior to the Revolutionary War. Of course now we all realize that England was in the wrong taxing the colonies without adequate representation in Parliament, and yet here we are having one of our most precious school experiences being unconstitutionally taken away from us without any say from the students who are actually affected! Much as colonists were forced by Britain to house and feed its soldiers without pay, we as students are forced to take on the unfair and frankly tyrannical changes seemingly enacted on a whim by OHS officials. Our voices are lost beneath the roar of the egos of OHS faculty members. Now, of course no one wants to fall on the wrong side of history. In United States history, 1700s Britain will forever be known as the tyrannical ruler which refused basic, inalienable rights to its people. OHS faculty board, we ask you to consider whether or not you wish to be remembered in the same way as Revolutionary War-era England. Forever you may be remembered in our hearts as the school board that cared for its students and respected their basic needs and requests, or the tale of OHS board members may instead be told as a cautionary tale of what happens when the wrong people abuse what little power they're given. The choice is yours.

If a few idiots decide to leave - that's on them. People will leave school if they want to - removing CT isn't going to help that. It will cause more harm and damage than help - similar to carpet bombing, except you target the entire human population to get rid of wars (kinda like I-Robot).

Why make return period?? It is a lose-lose situation!!! Can OHS try anything besides detention and return period? Don’t punish students who aren’t fools during cougar time!!!!!!
